We are back this month with another article that has fascinating potential. This comes from the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Parma in Italy. They were looking at the connection between resveratrol and human breast cancer cells. When consumed, resveratrol is broken down into different components. One of them is resveratrol–3–0–sulphate. This metabolite binds with the receptor sites on the cancer cells and prevents estrogen from binding with the cancer cell. This antiandrogen effect is similar to that of tamoxifen and has the potential of giving breast cancer patients an option to taking a prescription medication with its potential side effects. More research needs to be done but this is an interesting First Step.
